Andy Robertson on Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk: 'I'm bored saying how good he is!'

Andy Robertson has joked that he is getting "bored" praising Virgil van Dijk as his Liverpool team-mate enjoys a golden run of form for the Premier League leaders.

Van Dijk has been a key addition for Liverpool since signing in a club-record £75million transfer from Southampton in January 2018.

The Netherlands international helped lead Liverpool to the 2017-18 Champions League final, and has been rock solid at the heart of a defence which has conceded just seven League goals in 18 games this season.

Liverpool have conceded six goals fewer than next-best Manchester City, and lead the champions by four points after City lost 3-2 at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds had put the pressure on City on Friday night with a 2-0 win at Wolves courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk, with the centre-back winning man of the match.

Not only did Van Dijk score a key goal, but he also drew the plaudits for beating Adama Traore - widely acknowledged as one of the world's fastest players - in a battle of pace on the flank in the second half.

Liverpool left-back Robertson has heaped praise on Van Dijk following the win, buts claims that the defender's match-winning displays are becoming routine at Anfield.

Liverpool could need 105 points to win the league, says Klopp

“I'm getting bored speaking about how good he is!” he told the club's website.

“No, I'm only joking. He was fantastic. We knew when we saw [Adama] Traore up top that he has got great pace.

"His pace and direction are a big threat and big Virgil did so well with him. We knew on the counter-attack they were dangerous.

“I'm sure he will be disappointed he has not scored more goals but it was a clean sheet and his first Premier League goal - pretty much a perfect day for him.

“He's been brilliant [since joining Liverpool]. I've had the pleasure of working alongside him for the majority of time on the left-hand side of the defence.

"He's just a great lad to have next to you - I'm not sure he will say the same about me!

“I think we have had a good relationship, we work together. The whole back four does, whoever plays, his impact on the club has been good. I look forward to it continuing.”
