Andy Robertson missing from Liverpool's Champions League training session but surprise youngster takes part

Andy Robertson was missing from Liverpool’s final Champions League training session ahead of the Reds’ trip to Napoli.

The Scotsman, who was one of the standout performers in Saturday’s comeback win over Newcastle, did not take part as Jurgen Klopp put his side through their paces at Melwood.

Ki-Jana Hoever was involved in the session which took place on Monday morning, despite the defender not being named in the Champions League squad which was announced last month.

Summer signings Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg were also in action, while Rhian Brewster was warming up alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xherdan Shaqiri and Jordan Henderson.

Divock Origi was also missing following the ankle injury he sustained against the Magpies.

Naby Keita, who is expected to return to training following the Reds’ trip to Naples was absent.

At the other end of the pitch, Adrian, Andy Lonergan and Caoimhin Kelleher were training under the watchful eye of goalkeeping coach John Achterberg.

With Brazil No.1 Alisson not expected to make his return until next month.

Liverpool will now travel to Italy on Monday afternoon as they begin the defence of their European crown against Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli at San Paolo Stadium on Tuesday.
