Andy Robertson makes Scotland admission and addresses Tartan Army boos after Ireland defeat

Scotland's Andy Robertson, (left) applauds the fans at the end of the match during the UEFA Nations League match at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin

ANDY ROBERTSON admits Scotland deserved to be booed off by the Tartan Army after letting themselves down in a humbling defeat to the Republic of Ireland.

Steve Clarke's side were outfought and outplayed in Dublin as goals from Alan Browne, Troy Parrott and Michael Obafemi condemned the visitors to a Nations League loss.

Scotland now turn their attentions to the trip to Armenia next week as they attempt to end the international schedule on a positive note after two costly defeats.

Supporters made their feelings clear at the final whistle as Clarke and his players were left in no doubt about the thoughts of the fans who were left with nothing to show for their backing from the stands.

And captain Robertson held his hands up for the performance as Scotland crumbled on the big stage once again just days after seeing their World Cup bid ended by Ukraine.

Robertson said: "Nowhere near good enough. We have now said that twice in the space of ten days, which isn't us.

"We have let the manager down, which is so disappointing for us. He set us up in a way and we didn't carry that out and I think every one of us lot our individual battles, which can't happen in these types of games.

"Second balls went to them, they were winning the tackles, they had the chances and when it goes like that the result is only going the one way.

"To the fans behind the goal booing us off, they were completely correct. We know they travel a long way, we know they pay a lot of money, and that performance is nowhere near good enough in a Scotland jersey.

"We need to assess as a team, assess individually, and we have to hit the reset button. Everything was good last year but this year the performances haven't quite been up to scratch as of yet.

"We need to hit the reset button and we need to go again because we were in a good place before that."
