Andy Robertson injury update after Liverpool star suffers hamstring issue

Andy Robertson is in contention to play for Scotland this Wednesday suggesting his hamstring issue isn't as bad as first feared.

The Liverpool left-back missed his nation's 1-0 defeat by Slovakia with a tight-hamstring, but Scotland boss Steve Clarke says he may return to face Israel.

"Andy was probably a little bit worse than the rest, which is why I left him out. It would have been too big a risk," explained Clarke.

"But he's coming to Israel so we'll assess him over there and hopefully get him on the pitch. That would be good as we'd like our captain on the pitch."

The news will be music to the ears of those at Liverpool, although the club will continue to keep a close eye on the left-back.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are experiencing something of an injury crisis at the moment, with a number of key players out of action.

Virgil van Dijk has been sidelined with a ruptured ACL sustained in the Merseyside derby. The injury could keep him out for nine months.

Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also currently out of action for the Reds, and Joe Gomez suffered a major knee injury on England duty.

The centre-back is facing a lengthy lay-off following a non-contact incident in training.
