Andy Robertson in Scotland World Cup sweat as Liverpool star reveals extent of ankle injury

Andy Robertson is almost certainly out Scotland’s World Cup qualifying double header next month.

The Liverpool full back hobbled off during his side’s friendly against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

And he was later seen wearing a protective boot. Now Scotland skipper Robbo has confirmed he has suffered ankle ligament damage.

The 27-year-old now faces a spell on the sidelines and that is a huge blow to Steve Clarke in his quest to lead the nation to Qatar 2022.

Scotland face Denmark, Moldova and Austria in a huge Group F triple header.

Robertson rolled over on his ankle as he blocked a cross shortly before the end of the first half, and he had to be helped off the pitch by medics.

And speaking ahead of his side's game against Osasuna on Monday he took to social media to post: "Thanks to everyone for the kind messages and support.

"Scan suggests nothing too major but there’s some ligament damage which will need to mend.

"I will be grafting every day so I can help the team again sooner rather than later. Good luck to the boys playing tonight. #YNWA”

Speaking post-match on Sunday evening, manager Jurgen Klopp said: "We obviously don’t know in the moment how serious it is.

"It was pretty painful and that’s why Andy went off. You probably saw it on the TV pictures better than we did, but he got the ball, the ball on the front of his foot, [and] twisted the ankle."
