Andy Robertson explains how he suffered black eye as Liverpool pictures emerge

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has revealed the reason behind his recent black eye on social media.

The left-back missed the Reds’ most recent game against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup as part of his three-match suspension following his red card against Spurs last week.

Robertson is expected to return to the first team fold in time for the first leg of Liverpool ’s semi-final against Arsenal next month.

However, it looked as if the Scotland international’s tough luck had continued after he was spotted with a black eye during the team’s training session on Friday.

But Robertson took to social media to resolve any questions about the injury.

The 27-year-old shared a screenshot of him being kicked in the face by Tottenham defender Emerson Royal.

The caption on his Instagram story read: “Anyone asking about the blackeye! This might help”.

Robertson’s own plans to return to the Liverpool side have been impacted by the postponement of the Boxing Day clash with Leeds.

Initially, the defender was scheduled to miss the game against the Yorkshire side, along with league and cup clashes against Leicester.

Following the Premier League’s decision to call off the Reds’ game on Boxing Day, Robertson will now miss Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea on January 2.

His red card came in a controversial 2-2 draw with Spurs, which saw referee Paul Tierney controversially only book Harry Kane for a seemingly reckless foul on Robertson, a decision which angered Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

“I was brought up to take responsibility when you’ve done something wrong and I have to admit my challenge was poor and misjudged,” Robertson wrote on social media after the game.

“Probably best I don’t speak about other things in the match, other than to say how proud I am of the rest of the team.”
