Andy Robertson equals Premier League assist record as Liverpool storm past Huddersfield

Andy Robertson's storming season at Liverpool continued as the left-back equalled the Premier League record for most assists by a defender in a single season.

The Scotland captain laid on two goals at the Reds stormed back to the Premier League summit with a 5-0 win over relegated Huddersfield.

That takes his campaign's tally to 11 and he now has two games remaining to surpass stats posted by Leighton Baines in 2011 and Andy Hinchcliffe in 1995.

Robertson 's wicked cross landed perfectly on the head of Sadio Mane for Liverpool's second and a low ball in the closing stages allowed Mo Salah to round off the scoring.

Jurgen Klopp's side are locked in battle with Manchester City and moved two points clear on Friday - although Pep Guardiola's men have played a game less.

Robertson admitted his delight but insists his full focus remains on keeping their title hopes alive.

He said: "‘Yeah, look, delighted. He got one as well. I’m just keeping in front!

"But it’s all about trying to help the team, and that’s why we did it (had a competition to get the most assists), it pushes both of us.

"I think it proves it by the numbers this season. But it’s friendly banter and hopefully it’s stayed that way the whole way through.

"Whoever wins it now it’s going to be incredible and good numbers from both of us."

Manchester United are becoming the Liverpool they mercilessly mocked for years
