Andy Robertson eases Liverpool injury fears as Reds defender gets set for summer break

Andy Robertson has played down concerns over an injury suffered on international duty with Scotland.

The Scotland captain missed Tuesday night's 3-0 defeat to Roberto Martinez's Belgium after a hamstring complaint , with new boss Steve Clarke explaining Robertson was forced to withdraw on the morning of the game.

However, Robertson has since dismissed concerns over the injury as he signed off for the summer on his Instagram page on Wednesday afternoon with a succinct message.

"Frustrating to miss last nights game and to end an incredible season on a small low!" he posted.

"Now it’s time to switch off, recover and get ready to do it all over again with club and country!"

The injury is not expected to affect Robertson's pre-season regime, which will start up next month when Jurgen Klopp 's players return to Melwood.

The first contingent of Liverpool 's squad are due back at the club's training base on July 6, but it's unclear if the Scot will be part of the pack.

Andy Robertson on returning to Scotland action after a week 'full of emotion'

As the ECHO reported on Tuesday , Klopp is placing his players on specially-designed training programmes, with specific plans for different players.

Standard procedure would suggest that Liverpool's players are given three weeks off after their international commitments, but Klopp is keen to afford some of his squad further rest after a season that has effectively spanned 11 months for some.

It is unknown at this stage when Robertson is expected to report back to Melwood, but the injury with Scotland is not thought to be serious.
