Andy Robertson calms down Thiago Alcantara as Burnley fans taunt Liverpool man

Liverpool's hopes of Champions League qualification remain in their own hands after a hard-earned victory at Burnley on Wednesday.

Roberto Firmino, Nat Phillips and substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all scored as the Reds secured an ultimately comfortable 3-0 win.

The result means Jurgen Klopp’s side are now ahead of Leicester City on goal difference in fourth place and only a point behind third-place Chelsea with one game remaining.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at Turf Moor.

Thiago told

While Liverpool's players seemed gripped by nerves during the opening stages, there was one player who remained an oasis of calm.

However, even Thiago Alcantara momentarily got caught up in the pressing need for victory.

Early in the first half, the Spaniard attempted one overly-ambitious crossfield pass to Andy Robertson that floated harmlessly out of play.

The left-back then motioned at his team-mate to calm down a tad. Given Thiago's subsequent excellent performance, the message was clearly received.

Trent taunted

It cannot be overstated how fantastic it was to have supporters back at a Premier League match, the Burnley fans providing a dynamic, emotion and humour that just isn't possible behind closed doors.

Mind you, Trent Alexander-Arnold probably wasn't too keen on them being there when he stubbed his foot and mishit a clearance out of play.

"That's why you got dropped by England!" came the shout from the Burnley following.

Alexander-Arnold would end up having the last laugh, though. And maybe that England call will come after all.

Firmino sets landmark

With a record-breaking third successive scoring appearance at Burnley, Roberto Firmino certainly loves his trips to Turf Moor.

And as well as giving Liverpool a vital lead, there was another reason for the Brazilian to celebrate his goal.

Were there any moments you noticed? Let us know in the comments.

It took him on to 66 top-flight strikes for the club - one more than Fernando Torres.

Only six players have now scored more Premier League goals than Firmino, with Luis Suarez next in his sights. Si, senor.

Phillips fillip

There is very little not to like about the rise of Nat Phillips at Liverpool this season.

From nearly being on his way to becoming a mainstay of a top-four chasing backline, the centre-back may well have established a long-term future at the club.

However, there was one astonishing statistic that underlined both his remarkable rise and the bizarre nature of this campaign.

Thursday was the first time the 24-year-old Phillips had played a league game in England in front of paying supporters. Wow.
