Andy Robertson and the fitness revelation Liverpool will both welcome and fear

Captain Andy Robertson is ready to return to the Scotland starting line-up for the Nations League clash with Israel.

Steve Clarke declared earlier on Tuesday he had no injury concerns ahead of the pivotal showdown at Hampden.

The Liverpool left-back missed the weekend defeat to Slovakia with a tight hamstring but looks poised to retake his place in the side.

Clarke's team can clinch promotion to League A with a win over the Israelis.

Robertson's return will be viewed with a mix of optimism and trepidation on Merseyside.

News that he was unavailable for the Slovakia clash will have alarmed Jurgen Klopp and the Anfield faithful.

The Premier League champions have been decimated by defensive injuries in this most unusual of seasons.

Virgil van Dijk is a long-term absentee, as is Joe Gomez, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has also been ruled out in recent weeks.

Fabinho is battling back to fitness and, this week, young defender Rhys Williams has also picked up an injury.

Klopp will be eagerly awaiting the end of the international break and the opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the resumption of domestic action.

The German coach has been critical of the heavy fixture schedule imposed on his team and they resume their title defence at home to in-form Leicester City on Sunday.

With options remaining thin on the ground, Klopp will watch on, perhaps with one eye closed, as Robertson attempts to make it through another 90 minutes unscathed.

The 26-year-old has proven himself remarkable durable over recent seasons, remaining ever-present for club and country.

If there's one man he can count on to keep his ailing back together, perhaps it's Robertson.
