Andy Reid rules out Patrick Mahomes, Packers to face backup QB Matt Moore

Hope for the Aaron Rodgers vs. Patrick Mahomes matchup is now gone.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid officially ruled out Mahomes (dislocated kneecap) for Sunday night’s showdown with the Green Bay Packers, meaning Matt LaFleur’s team will face backup quarterback Matt Moore at Arrowfield Stadium.

Mahomes suffered the injury while attempting a quarterback sneak last Thursday night against the Denver Broncos. He practiced in a limited capacity this week but wasn’t able to get ready in time to play the Packers on Sunday night.

The Chiefs will turn to Moore, a 35-year-old veteran with 30 career starts. He completed 10 of 19 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown in Kansas City’s 30-6 win in Denver.

Moore hasn’t started a game since 2017. He’s started only five regular-season games over the last eight years.

Over 51 career games, Moore has thrown 46 touchdown passes and 36 interceptions, with a completion percentage of 59.4 and a passer rating of 81.2.
