Andy Reid provided thorough update on WR Kadarius Toney after practice on Tuesday

The injury suffered by Kadarius Toney at the start of training camp was an unfortunate turn of events for the talented receiver. The Kansas City Chiefs are counting on Toney to be a vital part of their receiving corps, and his absence could be shake up the team’s plans.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid updated members of the media at Missouri Western State University on Toney’s status after practice on Tuesday, telling reporters that the wideout underwent a cartilage clean-up procedure on his knee earlier in the day.

“Now, [we will] see how he does,” Reid said of his plan for the injured receiver. “Let’s see how the rehab part goes. And you know, if you have to have a surgeon, I think we caught it a good time. It looked like it was good when they were in there, all of that. So, you know, as long as the recovery goes well, I’m pulling for him in a positive way.”

Toney has had a frequent injury history with the New York Giants.

“I’m glad they caught it,” Reid continued. “You know that it happened this early where he can get himself back, and we’ll [still] get a lot of time. He’s a smart kid. So he picks this stuff up fairly [easily]. I don’t think he’s gonna have a tough time getting back in. It’s just getting back into football shape.”

There is no official timetable for Toney’s return, so the Chiefs will monitor his progress closely.

Said Reid: “I think getting [the procedure] done now is a good thing as opposed to it lingering and then getting worse and worse. And I’m glad [he] got it knocked out and done.”
