Andy Reid in relaxed mood as he prepares for National Superstock Championship opener

Andy Reid cuts a relaxed figure as he counts down the days and hours to this year's National Superstock 1000 Championship curtain-raiser.

The 2019 series blasts into action at Silverstone this weekend with free practice on Friday and racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Co Antrim star Reid has once again teamed up with Tyco BMW and will ride their S1000RR machine in the championship.

The 25-year-old previously rode for the Moneymore-based TAS Racing outfit in the Superbike class in 2017.

"I am excited. We are looking forward to seeing how the season unfolds," Reid told Belfast Live Sport.

"It is just good being back on track again and getting some laps in. I am on a new bike which presents new challenges, but that's what you want as a rider.

"The opening weekend in the championship is like going into the unknown for every rider. There is a lot involved to get a bike to its full potential, it isn't just as simple as jumping on and riding round a circuit.

"It was maybe like that 10 years ago but there is a lot of components that have to come together."

Whilst Carrickfergus rider Reid is taking a relaxed approach to the new season, his focus on winning remains undiminished.

"I want to win the championship, plain and simple," he said.

"I wouldn't be taking part if I didn't think I could win. It is just about how we go about it this season and taking a slightly different approach.

"I am in a good place right now and I have a team behind me whose ambition matches mine.

"I feel more settled going into the new season, which is something I haven't really experienced before.

"I am not placing any pressure on myself. I am going back to basics and approaching the new season in a relaxed mood. I just want to go racing and that's the focus I have right now. Being a racer.

Keith Flint death: Co Antrim rider Andy Reid pays tribute to 'beautiful soul' who took chance on him

"When you focus on all the positive things that have happened or that are happening, then it changes your focus.

"So I can't wait for the season to start now."
