Andy Murray to make Grand Slam singles return at Australian Open

Andy Murray will return to Grand Slam singles action at the Australian Open in the new year.

One year after conceding defeat to an ongoing injury and bidding an emotional farewell to the sport in Melbourne, Murray fought back to challenge the best once more after undergoing career-saving hip surgery.

Murray made his competitive return to tennis in the doubles at Queen's Club in June, where he won the title with partner Feliciano Lopez.

The Scot then featured in the men's and mixed doubles at Wimbledon before turning his attention to a singles return in Cincinnati in August. He sealed the biggest win of his comeback against world No13 Matteo Berrettin at the China Open earlier this month.

"Confirmed: Andy Murray will return to compete at the #AusOpen in 2020," Australian Open organisers said on Twitter.

Murray won his opening match at the ongoing Shanghai Masters on Monday and will face Fabio Fognini later on Tuesday.
