Andy Murray tests positive for coronavirus putting Australian Open hopes on ice

Scottish tennis star Andy Murray has tested positive for coronavirus, potentially put his hopes for the Australian Open next month in doubt.

Murray is said to be in good health despite testing positive.

The former world number one was due to travel to Australia on one of the 18 charter flights laid on by tournament organisers but is still isolating at home.

It was reported that Murray, who is said to be in good health, is hoping to be able to arrive in Australia at a later date and participate in the year's first grand slam, which begins on February 8.

He is currently self-isolating at home in Surrey, where he lives.

He will now be required to quarantine for 10 days, and will face a race against time to get to Australia in time for the start of the competition.

It is not known exactly when the positive test was returned.

The Scot, 33, originally from Dunblane, is a three-time grand slam winner and also won gold in the 2012 Olympic games.
