Andy Murray sees Queen's wildcard spot left open but admits 'very little chance' of singles return this summer

Andy Murray will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness for Queen’s after making a full return to competitive practice against Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon on Monday.

Murray has said he is finally pain-free 16 weeks after hip surgery but that he will focus on playing doubles this summer before assessing whether he can play alone.

“I would say there is very little chance I would play singles during the grass [season],” he told The Times. “Potentially doubles but I’m not trying to get ready for singles just now.

“I don’t have pain. I just need to see how good the hip can get really.

"I know from seeing what Bob Bryan has done that for doubles it will be absolutely fine. If I continue to feel good then I will obviously give it a shot in singles and see what happens.”

Organisers of the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s said on Tuesday they would keep a wildcard slot open for Murray in the singles for next month’s event until the last minute.

Dan Evans has been handed a wildcard into the main draw.
