Andy Murray's hotel and restaurant firm builds up £750,000 debt pile

Sir Andy Murray’s hotel and restaurant business has debts of almost £750,000.

The tennis star’s Cromlix House retreat needed another £100,000 in support last year, accounts show.

Figures to March 2020, before lockdown closures, reveal net liabilities of £741,453, up from £503,208.

Former Wimbledon champion Murray, 33, playing at the Championships yesterday, may now be forced to invest more or consider shutting the five-star retreat near his home town Dunblane.

Accounts say the hotel, valued at £6.7million, “could require further funding”. They reveal: “Uncertainty may cast significant doubt over the ability to continue as a concern.”

The firm said the accounts were only “part of the picture” over Murray’s investment, adding: “Profit was never Andy’s motivation.

“The principal aim is to give back to his community. We anticipate a very busy summer season.

“The hotel continues to provide valuable jobs for those in the Dunblane area and attracts many tourists to the area.

Andy’s mum Judy, 61, and his 33-year-old wife Kim are co-directors.
