Andy Murray reveals he's 'pain-free and happy' but feels no pressure to return to tennis after hip op

Andy Murray has said he feels 'pain-free and happy' after successfully undergoing hip surgery.

The three-times Grand Slam champion spoke out about his ongoing recovery at London Marathon, where he was the official starter.

The 31-year-old Scot said: "The hip is really good and there is no pain any more. I'm just a bit weak from the incision in the operation.

"I'm pain-free, happy and enjoying my life".

The tennis star previously told BBC Sport that his chances of playing singles at Wimbledon this year are "less than 50%" and added that he doesn't "feel pressure" to return to the game.

In a interview with the broadcaster in March he said: "I have been hitting the ball from a stationary position but I haven't been doing any movement."

"I don't feel any pressure to get playing again but if my body will allow, I will try."

Rumours of Murray's retirement circulated earlier this year after the former British number one announced during the Australian Open that he was in constant pain.

He underwent hip surgery on January 28 and took to Instagram the next day to update his fans on his recovery.

Murray revealed he felt "battered and bruised" after the gruelling operation but hinted at a possible comeback.

Earlier this month took to social media to post a video of himself on an outdoor court, describing the footage of him hitting a tennis ball for the first time since the surgery as "a start".

She added: "He was told not to do impact work, which basically means running around the garden hitting a ball, for three months but he's been hitting against a wall from a static position."

Mum Judy Murray said on Wednesday that he was "cautiously optimistic" about returning to action "at some point this summer".
