Andy Murray prepares for Australian Open with comfortable win over Viktor Durasovic at Sydney Classic

Andy Murray enjoyed a confident warm-up to the Australian Open with a rapid straight-sets win over Viktor Durasovic at the Sydney Classic.

The pair were closely matched in the early exchanges before Murray broke his Norwegian opponent and then rapidly took a stranglehold on the match in a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Murray struggled a little with his first-service potential at just 61 per cent but won 96 per cent of points on that first serve.

The former British No1 said in his on-court interview: “It is really nice to get my range and hopefully I can carry that through to Melbourne.

“I was hoping to get matches in Melbourne last week, but that didn’t happen. Thankfully the tournament organisers agreed to give me the wild card and the opportunity to play here and I am very grateful for that.”

Georgian second seed Nikoloz Basilashvili is up next for Murray on Wednesday morning.
