Andy Murray has been left heartbroken after the death of his ‘amazing’ pet dog.

In 2015, we revealed that the tennis ace often had video chats with his dogs Maggie May and Rusty while he took part in tours across the world.

He told the Daily Record: “if I’ve had a bad match, they’re great comfort.”

The 35-year-old also gave his pups the privilege of wearing his Olympic medals back in 2012 after striking gold in the Men’s Singles competition at the London games.

“Today our family said goodbye to this amazing little dog”, the two-time Wimbledon winner wrote on Instagram on Friday.

“She was a huge part of our family and our first pet so this really hurts.

“Give your pets a big cuddle tonight cause it stings when you can’t anymore.

“Thanks Maggie Mayhem, you were an absolute star.”

Thousands of Andy’s fans commented to console the Scots athlete in response to his heartbreaking post.

One wrote: “It’s the worst thing ever. Hugs to you all. Rest in peach Maggie Mayhem.”

Another added: “So much love. They’re huge parts of our families.”

A third commented: “I’m so sorry to hear this. It’s heartbreaking when they have to leave. Much love.”
