Andy Murray keeps third child's gender secret from family as new baby due in coming days

Andy Murray is keeping the gender of his third baby a secret, the tennis hero’s grandad revealed yesterday.

The two-time Wimbledon singles champion and wife Kim are expecting their new arrival within days.

Andy’s grandparents Roy and Shirley Erskine have no idea if they’re expecting a boy or a girl.

Andy, 31, and Kim, 32, have two daughters Sophia, three, and one-year-old Edie.

Roy said: “We’ll wait and see if we end up with three great-granddaughters or our first great-grandson, although it wouldn’t matter what we get as long as everything is OK. We’re thrilled to bits regardless.”

Kim sparked pregnancy rumours in July after appearing at Wimbledon in a maternity top to watch her husband play mixed doubles with Serena Williams.

Roy, who lives in Andy’s hometown of Dunblane, Perthshire, said he and Shirley had kept the pregnancy a secret until Andy revealed Kim could go into labour early.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist said he chose to compete at the European Open in Antwerp this week instead of the Stockholm Open because it was easier to fly home from Belgium than Sweden.

Roy said: “We’ve known about the baby for a while now but it has suddenly come very close.

Kim Murray sparked pregnancy rumours this summer when she appeared at Wimbledon wearing maternity clothes (PA)

“We weren’t sworn to secrecy or anything like that. I think the news was generally known although it hadn’t been announced officially.

“I didn’t find it difficult to keep the news to myself but my wife would probably tell you she struggled to keep the excitement to herself.”

Bennett’s butchers in Dunblane hopes to create a new product by the end of the week to celebrate the baby’s birth.

Owner Graham Fleming said: “We always try to do something to celebrate the Murrays. It brings the community together.

“We’re likely to go down the sausage route.

“Andy’s gran Shirley is a regular in here. She might help us think of something.”
