Andy Murray insists sore back is not a concern ahead of quick turnaround at Eastbourne

Andy Murray is confident a back problem will not derail his Wimbledon ambitions as he continues his comeback at Eastbourne on Tuesday.

Two days after a surprise men’s doubles win at Queen’s in his first tournament since hip surgery in January, Murray insisted the only issue he had was with his back.

“That’s the only thing,” he said. “It’s not a concern but it’s just a bit stiff and sore.”

Murray came through a short practice session with new playing partner Marcelo Melo on Monday before a first-round match against No1 seeds Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal.

The Briton said: “We had just a light practice. Hopefully I’ll feel all right. It’s a pretty quick turnaround.

"I hadn’t played a match in five months and then three or four in a couple of days.

“So you’d expect to be a bit stiff and sore in a few places. But I’m really happy with how I feel.”
