Andy Murray in 's**t happens' tweet as the tennis ace hints at end of Olympic career

Andy Murray has signalled that Tokyo 2020 may be his final Olympics after the Scots tennis ace went crashing out of the games earlier today.

The 34-year-old and his Team GB partner Joe Salisbury lost against Croatia’s Marian Cilic and Ivan Dodig in the quarter finals of the men’s doubles tournament.

Defeat resulted in the end of Andy’s spell in Japan after he was also forced to pull out of the singles competition due to an injury.

It was bitterly disappointing for the Dunblane star who had ambitions of securing his fourth Olympic medal.

In a tweet to fans shortly after today’s defeat, a “crushed” Murray admitted that sometimes “s**t happens”.

He also went on to thank the Team GB setup for giving him the ‘best memories of his life’ during his four appearances at the Olympic Games.

“I feel crushed after today’s loss. Sport can be brutal”, he wrote.

“Thanks so much @joesalisbury92 for the opportunity to play. You were brilliant. I wish I could have gone a little better but s**t happens.

“And if this is the end of my @olympics journey, I want to say a huge thanks to @TeamGB and all the tennis support team for everything they have done to help me perform at my best over the years.

“It’s been an absolute privilege to represent you and my countries at four Olympics and it’s given me some of the best memories of my life.”

Andy later went on to share a picture of him waving the Union Flag at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

The Scottish tennis star stunned fans in 2018 when he revealed that he would retire from the game due to numerous battles with injuries.

Despite the comments, Murray continued on after undergoing resurfacing surgery on his hip.

Fans were given a throwback of Murray in his prime during Wimbledon earlier this year - which was his first time at the All England Club for four years.

Andy was then knocked out in the third round of the tournament, losing in straight sets to Canadian player Denis Shapovalov.
