Andy Murray has confirmed he and his wife Kim Sears are expecting their first child together.
The British tennis number one, who married Sears in April, confirmed reports from the Scottish Sun via his agent on Friday. The newspaper said Sears, 27, had visited hospital for her 12-week scan and had been given a February due date.
Murray discussed his decision to wed Sears after beating Rafael Nadal in the Madrid Masters final, saying marriage was “nice” and a natural next step for the pair, who have been together for a decade.
“A lot of people have spoken about the honeymoon period," the 28-year-old said. "But we've been together a very long time and getting married was the next step." People News In Pictures
When asked if he was nervous about getting married prior to his wedding, he told BBC Sport: "I think I will be more nervous about starting a family because that would be more life-changing, in a good way.”
