Andy Murray cancels Miami training camp due to groin injury but Australian Open not in doubt

Andy Murray has cancelled plans for a two-week December training camp in Miami because of ongoing issues with a groin injury.

Murray had been due to fly out last week to his traditional Florida base for a fortnight before Christmas but remains in the UK nursing the injury, which he carried into the Davis Cup in Madrid last month.

The former world No1 was diagnosed with bruising to the pelvic bone following his only singles match at the event, with the injury forcing him out of taking any further part as Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund guided Britain to a place in the semi-finals before losing to eventual champions Spain.

Murray’s team confirmed he would remain at his Surrey home in the build-up to Christmas to work on his latest rehabilitation programme.

But they were adamant he will be fit to travel to Australia where he has committed to take part in the opening Grand Slam of 2020 a year after he tearfully lost in the opening round and announced his potential retirement before undergoing hip surgery.

The three-time Grand Slam winner is likely to need a wildcard to take part at the Australian Open, which is expected to be forthcoming on the basis of his past Grand Slam results and his status in the game.
