Andy Murray and Serena Williams confirm Wimbledon mixed-doubles pairing

Andy Murray and Serena Williams have teamed up in a dream Wimbledon mixed-doubles pairing.

The two-time men's singles champion is competing in the mixed doubles for the first time at SW19, and any grand slam, as he continues his reintegration into competitive tennis following hip surgery.

Murray and Feliciano Lopez beat Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in the Queen's doubles last week, the former British No1's first tournament since going under in the knife.

Murray teased his partnership on Sunday, telling reporters: "You want to be playing with someone who's going to be there for the whole event, and they're in it to try to win matches and win the event.

"She's arguably the best player ever. It would be a pretty solid partner."

Serena has featured in mixed doubles at Wimbledon just once before, winning the 1998 title with Max Mirnyi. She won at the US Open the same year, also with Mirnyi.

The 37-year-old last played mixed doubles at a grand slam in 2012, losing in the first round at the French Open after a 13-year absence from the discipline.

The draw for the mixed doubles is made on Wednesday, July 3.
