Former Rangers star Andy Halliday says he doesn't understand why Alfredo Morelos isn't back at Rangers ahead of their season opener.
It remains unclear if the 25-year-old is back in Scotland but on his return and could be forced in for a 10-day self-isolation stint at a quarantine hotel with no automatic exceptions available when travelling from red list countries.
Morelos was a peripheral figure for Colombia as they finished third at Copa America and the rest of the Ibrox squad is now back ahead of their season opener against Livingston.
The Rangers talisman is a target for Porto and boss Steven Gerrard admitted last week he is tired answering questions over the striker's future.
But Morelos' former team-mate Halliday admits he's alarmed El Bufalo hasn't returned with a vital Champions League qualifier against either Malmo or Helsinki looming.
Speaking to Superscoreboard, he said: "It feels as if it's a topic we've spoken about every pre-season for the last two or three years, what's going to happen, what's the future of Alfredo Morelos?
"To me it screams out that something is happening behind the scenes because Borna Barisic went to the latter stages of the Euros, Filip Helander might have been roughly the same time.
"They are back, they have been back for quite a few days. Alfredo Morelos is obviously still in Colombia, when he does return he will need to isolate for 10 days like we spoke about Celtic's new signings.
"I don't understand why he's not back, there must be something going on behind the scenes, is it to do with the Porto speculation? I'm not too sure but it seems the same topic of discussion we've had for the last two to three seasons."
