Andy Halliday's Alfredo Morelos Rangers transfer suspicion after return timeline doesn't add up

Andy Halliday suspects there’s more to Alfredo Morelos’ extended Rangers break than merely rest and recuperation.

The Colombian striker has been heavily linked with a move to Porto, although Steven Gerrard is determined to keep the 25-year-old at Ibrox for their Champions League group stage quest.

Morelos is currently back in Colombia after featuring in the Copa America this summer.

However, Colombia being on the UK Government’s red list for travel could see him miss this Saturday’s Premiership opener against Livingston and next week’s Euro qualifier against either Malmo or HJK.

And Halliday suspects moves are being made behind the scenes given the Gers Euro 2020 contingent having already returned to Glasgow.

Speaking to Superscoreboard , he said: "It feels as if it's a topic we've spoken about every pre-season for the last two or three years, what's going to happen, what's the future of Alfredo Morelos?

"To me it screams out that something is happening behind the scenes because Borna Barisic went to the latter stages of the Euros, Filip Helander might have been roughly the same time.

"They are back, they have been back for quite a few days. Alfredo Morelos is obviously still in Colombia, when he does return he will need to isolate for 10 days like we spoke about Celtic's new signings.

"I don't understand why he's not back, there must be something going on behind the scenes, is it to do with the Porto speculation? I'm not too sure but it seems the same topic of discussion we've had for the last two to three seasons."
