Andy Halliday in surprise Rangers red card verdict as Michael Stewart silenced on Sportscene

Former Rangers hero Andy Halliday insists Paul Hanlon did NOT deserve a red card for his challenge on Ianis Hagi.

The Hibs defender was booked after catching the Romanian with an elbow in the 2-2 draw at Easter Road.

Pundit Kris Boyd insisted that the centre-back should have seen red for the incident, with Rangers boss Steven Gerrard agreeing in his post-match interview.

And while Halliday felt Ryan Porteous could have walked for a similar challenge on Alfredo Morelos, he insisted Hanlon deserved to stay on the pitch.

Speaking on Sportscene he insisted: "For me, I don't think the Hanlon one's a red card.

"I just think that he's done his best to get himself in between Alfredo (Ianis Hagi) and the ball, I don't think that contact's deliberate.

"But for me, if the referee's seen the Ryan Porteous one I think he's very lucky."

Stewart then moved to give his input, but host Steven Thompson quickly moved on.

He joked: "We must move on - Michael, you're not getting an opinion!"

Gerrard refused to be drawn on the incident after the game, but intimated that he agreed it was a red card.

When Boyd's comments were put to the Rangers boss he responded: "I think Kris has a point."
