Andy Halliday in Rangers transfer plea as he warns it's not the year for 'cheap replacements'

Andy Halliday insists Rangers should be compelled to spend every penny of a potential Ryan Kent transfer fee.

The former Ibrox star has warned it's not the season for "cheap replacements" as Leeds United remain interested in the winger.

Steven Gerrard's side are bidding to stop rivals Celtic winning a historic 10 In A Row but are attracting interest in their star players.

Alfredo Morelos looks close to the exit door while Leeds could return with an improved offer for Kent.

Speaking on the Keeping the Ball on the Ground podcast, Halliday disagreed with co-star Kevin Kyle that Martin Boyle would represent a cost-effective replacement for Kent should he be sold.

The midfielder, a free agent having left his boyhood club, insists Gerrard should be allowed to splash the cash.

Halliday said: "I get what you're saying, I just think it's not the year for cheap replacements.

"If they sell him (Kent), they need to spend all the money.

"I think, and if you'd asked me last year I wouldn't have wanted to lose either, now Ryan Kent would be the bigger loss (over Morelos).

"You'd like to think they've replaced Morelos with Roofe and Itten, they've got two other attacking options.

"If you lose Ryan Kent you need to spend all the money to find a replacement."
