Andy Halliday fires 'who cares' Dermot Gallagher verdict as Rangers decision missed highlighted

Andy Halliday has had a pop at Dermot Gallagher over his analysis of decisions from Scottish football on his Ref Watch segment as he asked 'who cares what he says?'.

The former English Premier League whistler looked over key calls from both Celtic's win over St Mirren and Rangers' triumph over Kilmarnock as part of his regular Monday show on Sky Sports. He came to the conclusion that Derek McInnes' side should feel hard done by twice after Willie Collum's decision to award a penalty after checking the VAR monitor for a handball at the end of the first half and the failure to penalise Allan McGregor on Rory McKenzie in the second period.

Hearts star Halliday doesn't believe the angles shown were conclusive enough and his only issue with that incident is that it is down to a matter of opinion. He also believes a FOUL on Connor Goldson was missed at Kilmarnock's goal while he praised VAR for doing a good job in Celtic's game with St Mirren after David Dickinson failed to spot any of three incidents in real time with the video assistant referee jumping in and picking them out.

All that been said, the former Rangers star believes no one concerned with the Scottish game should care what Gallagher has to say on matters north of the border.

Looking back at both incidents on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Halliday said: "My only issue with that handball is I think it is down to a matter of opinion, which VAR shouldn't be.

"I don't think the camera angles shown were conclusive enough that it hit his arm below the t-shirt line, which is the threshold.

"I've only seen the two angles, the one from behind the Kilmarnock defender and the one from behind the goal.

"The one from behind the goal looks as if it hits the Kilmarnock player's hand for me but is it below the t-shirt line? I don't think it's conclusive enough.

"Dermot Gallagher? Who cares? Genuinely, who cares what he says?

"He's doing Ref Watch on Sky Sports News. The VAR that we're using in our country is supposed to be doing the job for us. What I will say is, I actually thought VAR had a very good weekend.

"The three incidents at St Mirren, David Dickinson didn't give one of them in normal time. VAR's job is to come in and pick up the incidents that the referees have missed so VAR did its job in that game.

"In terms of the Rangers game, I don't think it's conclusive enough on the handball but for me it looked like a handball.

"But I think the one the caller didn't mention, I think Connor Goldson is a foul for Kilmarnock's goal - which Derek McInnes didn't mention after the game!

"I don't think there's a debate about that. You can't jump on somebody's shoulders and have two hands on somebody's shoulders, not allowing them to jump to compete for the ball."
