Andy Gray believes Steve Bruce 'deserves time' to make a success of his time at Newcastle

BeIN Sports pundit Andy Gray believes Steve Bruce 'deserves time' to get things right at Newcastle.

Pressure was growing on the Magpies boss after last weekend's 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Leicester but he answered his critics on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Bruce's decision to revert to the 5-2-2-1 formation and to make five changes to the side who lost against the Foxes paid dividends - particularly the call to hand Matty Longstaff his Premier League debut.

The 19-year-old scored the winning goal en route to a match winning display, and it has led Gray to call on United fans to give Bruce more time to implement his style on this Newcastle squad.

"Has Steve Bruce done all right in my eyes? Yes, he has and he does deserve time," he told BeIN Sports.

"He is a really experienced manager and there is only about five men I can think of who have coached more Premier League games than him.

"You have got a really experienced manager. A Geordie who loves the club. Give him a break and give him some time.

"I think as long as he can get some results like this. He is not going to win every game as manager of Newcastle but as long as he can pick up some results, work his way up the league, I think he should be given some time."
