March 29--Andy Enfield just finished guiding USC to its best record since 2009. On Monday, USC rewarded him with a contract extension.
USC announced it had extended Enfield's contract for two more years, through the 2020-21 season. Terms of the new agreement were not disclosed.
In 2013, Enfield signed a six-year deal, worth more than $1 million each year.
"We are very excited about the direction of our men's basketball program under Coach Enfield and the progress that has been made," USC Athletic Director Pat Haden said in a statement. "We look forward to continued progress, and we believe that with this contract extension, Coach Enfield will bring stability and success to USC men's basketball for the long term."
After enduring two forgettable seasons with USC, Enfield saw his young team blossom this season. Afterward, his name entered the discussion for at least one coaching vacancy.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette first reported that Pittsburgh reached out to Enfield to gauge his interest in its open coaching position. Pittsburgh ultimately hired Kevin Stallings from Vanderbilt.
Enfield, who was hired away from Florida Gulf Coast after a surprise NCAA tournament run, is USC's third coach since 2009, when Tim Floyd resigned amid an NCAA investigation.
USC finished last in the Pac-12 Conference in each of Enfield's first two seasons, but in January, the Trojans cracked the top 25 in the Associated Press poll for the first time since 2008.
They made the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2011. The Trojans led Providence until the final seconds, but poor free-throw shooting and mental mistakes cost them the game.
USC is expected to return every significant contributor next season.
"We look forward to an off-season of continued development for our players that will set the foundation for an exciting 2016-17 season," Enfield said in the statement.
