Andy Considine out for Aberdeen until after Christmas as defender has cruciate ligament surgery

Aberdeen have been dealt a major blow with the news mainstay Andy Considine will be out of action until after Christmas.

Stephen Glass revealed on Wednesday afternoon the defender has had cruciate surgery on a knee he injured last week in the first leg of the Europa Conference League playoff against Qarabag.

The Dons boss was speaking ahead of the second leg at Pittodrie on Thursday night in which his side will attempt to qualify for the group stage for the first time since 2008.

They will be roared on by a likely capacity crowd, with more than 15,000 tickets already sold for the showdown.

Considine’s injury has left Aberdeen short of defensive options and it is something the Dons are likely to address before the close of the window.

Mikey Devlin is also still not fully fit and so the Dons go into Thursday’s clash with Declan Gallagher and Ross McCrorie as their only recognised central defenders.

Ryan Hedges is also out until after the international break with a hamstring issue.

Glass has so far signed Scott Brown (Celtic), Declan Gallagher (Motherwell) Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (Livingston), Teddy Jenks (Brighton, loan), Jack Gurr (Atlanta United), Christian Ramirez (Houston Dynamo), Gary Woods (Oldham Athletic), and Austin Samuels (loan, Wolves).
