Andy Cole makes Steve Bruce predictions after Newcastle United's attacking improvement

Andy Cole believes Newcastle United fans will support Steve Bruce if he commits to their recent brand of attacking football next season.

After a season of struggles, the Magpies have opened up in recent matches, scoring four times at Leicester City and three times against Manchester City.

Bruce has let his players off the shackles recently, oping for a more attacking line-up containing Joe Willock and Miguel Almiron in a midfield three, with converted wingers Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie at wing-back.

Bruce has received widespread criticism for his management and the brand of football served up at St James' Park but after dragging Newcastle away from the bottom three and earning the April Manager of the Month award, he's earned some credit.

Cole believes that supporters will be much more tolerant of the Magpies boss if he commits to playing a more expansive brand of football from the start of next year.

"Knowing the Newcastle United fans, they want to see attacking football and goals," Cole told Sky Sports.

"For me, Newcastle will concede goals but fans want to see them try to score goals. If he's more prepared to play like this next season, I think the fans will really get behind him."

He added: "It's very important (to finish strongly). Yes, the handbrake is off, they're safe.

"Playing how they did today and then the last two games of the season they can really have a go and try to finish the season on a high."
