Manchester United legend Andy Cole has advised the club to sell Jesse Lingard this summer following his impressive form on loan with West Ham.
The England international has enjoyed a resurgence in Gareth Southgate's squad ahead of this summer's European Championships and extended his impressive record with a brace against Leicester City on Sunday.
Lingard has now netted eight goals and contributed three assists in just nine matches for the Hammers, helping them in their surprise push for a top-four finish.
That has ignited a debate around what should happen with Lingard this summer and whether United should hand him a fresh opportunity at Old Trafford.
However, Cole believes the best approach for all parties would be for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to cash in at the end of the season - benefitting from his impressive form.
“The opportunity for him to go on loan to West Ham came at a fantastic time. He’s taken it with both hands," he told TalkSport.
“Now Manchester United have a decision to make. Take him back or sell him in the summer for a little bit more money than was expected?
“I think if I was Manchester United, I would move him on. And if I was Jesse I would want to go and play games. Definitely.”
The 28-year-old was due to see his contract at United expire this summer but the club exercised a one-year extension on his deal in December.
However, he will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer and could leave on a free transfer next year if a sale does not materialise in the next transfer window.
