Andy Cohen had some unfiltered criticism for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio during the New Year’s Eve broadcast he shared with Anderson Cooper.
Cohen and Cooper reunited for their now-traditional live show in Times Square on Thursday night, as 2020 drew to a close and 2021 was ushered in.
At one point, the co-hosts each took a shot of tequila – another tradition between the two friends.
Cohen, who said he had brought two bottles of liquor, happily threw his back, but Cooper expressed a vocal mix of discomfort and disgust.
“All right, all right!” Cohen told him. “That’s how I felt when I saw Mayor De Blasio dancing just now.”
Cohen was referring to an earlier sequence in which the mayor was seen dancing on a stage in Times Square as part of the festivities.
The TV host’s tone escalated into frustration as he addressed De Blasio. “Do something with this city!” he exclaimed, arms outstretched. “Honestly, get it together.”
De Blasio’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic has been criticised by a number of New Yorkers.
During the New Year’s Eve broadcast, Cohen joked he would soon be “tiptoeing back to Bravo”, the network on which he hosts Watch What Happens Live. Cohen is also an executive producer on Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise.
“But while I have this platform, I have some other stuff I want to say too. All right?” Cohen joked on CNN.
Cooper stepped in and told him: “You’re that guy in the bar.” “Yeah, I am,” Cohen confirmed.
