Andy Carroll tries to put lid on Allan Saint-Maximin stories with jokey Instagram post

Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has laughed off any suggestions there are problems between Allan Saint-Maximin and Steve Bruce.

The injured centre-forward - who is hoping to be back soon from a hamstring injury - took to Instagram after the Frenchman's winner against Southampton.

After posting a picture of Saint-Maximin celebrating, Carroll said: "I'm glad to see that you have made up after that BIG bust-up!"

The post was followed my a laughing emjoi.

Bruce has insisted there are no issues between himself and the former Nice star.

Saint-Maximin took to Twitter at the weekend to publish a picture of him hugging Bruce at St Mary's Stadium in the aftermath of the victory on the South Coast.

Bruce left Saint-Maximin out of the starting XI against Burnley but he returned to the line-up against West Brom, where he grabbed two assists, and then into the team for the win at Southampton.

Bruce said: "What a wonderful decision it was to leave him on the bench last week.

"I thought he wasn’t quite physically right.  I gave him a break from it.

"Now he’s scored one and made two in the cup tie.

"I’m delighted for him.  I said from day one he’s always going to please everybody.

"He’s got pace, great balance.

"He’s frustrating at times, and he has to learn, but if he learns, he’s got a bright future ahead of him."
