Andy Carroll to discover contract fate no later than next week

Andy Carroll will get a decision on his contract situation at Newcastle United next week.

It is understood that D-day for Carroll will be by the end of the week with his current deal set to expire in June.

Carroll's last two contracts were sanctioned by Mike Ashley's inner circle and the striker is believed to be keen to stay on Tyneside for another year.

At 32, Carroll has been used sparingly by Steve Bruce in the last few weeks and he last started a game during the 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa back in January.

Since then he has been restricted to cameo roles from the bench as Bruce had Callum Wilson back from injury in April and relied on Joelinton for a clutch of games.

Carroll's future could lie in Ashley's hands again with the owner enjoying a very good relationship with the Geordie striker and his family.

The club are yet to confirm whether Fabian Schar and Dwight Gayle have agreed new contracts but Bruce hinted at this Press conference that decisions on deals had been parked until the close of play in the Premier League.
