Andy Carroll breaks a Premier League record despite Newcastle United's 2-1 defeat to Everton

Andy Carroll became a Premier League record-breaker on Saturday afternoon despite Newcastle United's 2-1 defeat to Everton.

A Dominic Calvert-Lewin brace inflicted only second home league defeat of the season, also making it two wins from two for Carlo Ancelotti as the Toffees boss.

However, despite a disappointing result on the field, Carroll came away with a personal accolade after yet another dominant performance in the air.

Up against Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate, the Newcastle striker bullied the Everton centre-backs, winning a colossal 24 aerial duels.

We all know that Carroll is as big a threat as anyone in the air in England but this level of aerial bombardment has put him in the record books.

According to  Opta , the 24 duels Carroll won against Everton was the most in a single Premier League games since Opta began recording this data in the 2006/07 season.

The Magpies' number seven is still awaiting his first goal since his return to the club in the summer, however, with each passing game, he is becoming more of a threat to opposing defences.

Back-to-back Premier League defeats leaves Newcastle 11th in the table, still seven points above the relegation zone, with Leicester City and Wolves next up.
