Andy Burnham did the Boston Marathon for those killed, injured and bereaved in the Arena attack - his time was pretty impressive

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham did the Boston Marathon for those killed, injured and bereaved in the Arena attack.

He has raised over £6,000 for charities set up by families who lost loved ones in the atrocity.

Andy finished the race in 5 hours and 13 minutes, putting him 24,913th. Around 30,000 people entered.

He wore a t-shirt with the Manchester bee as he crossed the finish line.

In a tweet, Andy said: "Well, it was tough, VERY tough. But I did it and here’s the proof!

"Thanks for all your amazing messages, donations and support."

Andy is supporting the Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust; the Megan Hurley Foundation; and the Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Trust.

Money will also go to Liv’s Trust; the Remembering Nell Foundation; and the One World Strong Foundation.

On his JustGiving page, Andy said: “I know this is a very difficult time for all the families as we approach the second anniversary and, in a small way, I just wanted to let them know we are thinking about them.
