Andros Townsend suffers Rangers inquiry mix-up as Celtic claim summons Ally McCoist warning

Crystal Palace star Andros Townsend suffered an on-air mix-up while being quizzed over the question that has everyone talking.

Former Tottenham star Jamie O'Hara caused fury north of the border when he claimed Steven Gerrard would be landing a bigger job if he left Rangers for Bournemouth.

A cast of characters have chimed in since and Townsend became the latest player to be put on the spot on Wednesday.

And, at first, the 29-year-old England international could see the merits of O'Hara's shock comments.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "Rangers are obviously the bigger club, Bournemouth is in the better division, the stronger division.

"For a normal manager, if you want to prove yourself, I would say go to Bournemouth but for Steven Gerrard he has got more to lose if he was to go to Bournemouth.

"He is happy at Rangers, finishing first or second and hopefully one day he will take over at Liverpool."

But Townsend changed his tune when it dawned on him that the south coast side won't be competing against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool next season.

And then Townsend confessed: "Do you know what? I'll put my hands up, I forgot Bournemouth got relegated (from the Premier League).

"Have we got that truck noise? I'm going to reverse."

Townsend then was the tasked with choosing between Rangers and a selection of clubs and he is certain the Ibrox side are bigger than Aston Villa and Everton.

But any hopes of a warm welcome on his next visit to Govan were dashed when Laura Woods delivered the key question.

She asked: "Celtic or Rangers?"

And Townsend, without hesitation, responded: "Oh, Celtic.

"You are setting me up for absolute....

And Ally McCoist was on hand to send a warning to his on-air colleague.

He joked: "You are going downhill mate, quit mate, quit."
