It came as no surprise to Crystal Palace fans as Andros Townsend claimed the goal of the season award at the club’s awards night in Croydon on Tuesday evening.
The winger’s sensational strike against Manchester City in December helped the Eagles to a momentous win at the Etihad Stadium, and was named as the Premier League goal of the month too.
It is a leading contender for the goal of the season too in the Premier League, so it was hardly a shock that Townsend was the recipient of the club’s award for the best goal too.
And the former Tottenham man spoke of what it meant to him and Palace on that day.

“It was probably the sweetest strike of my career,” he said.
“Taking away the goal it was a special, special day for everyone connected with Crystal Palace.

“I’ve scored one or two that I’ve been happy with but this season I was aiming for quantity over quality, and I think it’s been my best goalscoring season.
