Andros Townsend has admitted Everton couldn’t believe they were able to get Demarai Gray for the price they did this summer.
The Blues completed the signing of Gray from Bayer Leverkusen on a three-year deal last month and he scored his first goal for his new club last week against Leeds United.
Collecting Abdoulaye Doucoure’s pass inside the box, the former Leicester City man cut a shot back across Illan Meslier with his left foot and found the bottom corner of the net.
And Gray was again on target this week, putting his side ahead in their 2-0 win over Brighton at the Amex.
Gray was fed just inside the Brighton half and drove forward into the penalty area before firing a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
And teammate Townsend said after the game: "£1.5m in today's market, we couldn't believe it.”
A second half penalty from Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed all three points for the Blues and Townsend has another reason to be extra happy tonight.
“I knew what to expect coming here,” he said in response to being asked about being booed by Brighton due to Crystal Palace past.
“Hopefully it's not just Everton fans but fans of my old employers who are happy tonight."
