Andros Townsend backs Tottenham star Dele Alli after latest Jose Mourinho decision

Former Tottenham winger Andros Townsend believes Dele Alli will respond to Jose Mourinho's latest 'test'.

Alli was dropped from the Spurs squad for last weekend's win over Southampton and that has given rise to talk of a possible exit with French giants PSG linked.

Mourinho and Alli appear to have a complicated relationship with footage from the club's Amazon Prime 'All or Nothing' documentary highlighting the difficulties between the pair.

But the Portuguese boss does like Alli, according to now Crystal Palace star Townsend, who thinks the Spurs playmaker will come out the other end.

"I think it has been another test from Mourinho," he said on TalkSPORT. "We saw in the documentary how much he likes him but he feels he is not getting what he wants from Dele at the minute and that he has to take drastic measures, to see how he will react.

"Mourinho has done it many times in his career, most recently to (Tanguy) Ndombele who has come back into the side and done really well.

"I think it's another test for Dele. I'm sure he will come out the other side back to the Dele Alli that we saw."

Speaking about the transfer links with PSG, Townsend responded: "PSG are one of the best clubs in the world, but I don't think he will (go).

"I think it's probably the agent seeing that he got dropped from the side and just dropping his name into the media to see how Tottenham will react."
