Andriy Yarmolenko surgery a success; West Ham star ruled out for six months

West Ham have confirmed that Andriy Yarmolenko has had successful surgery to repair a damaged Achilles tendon, and is expected to be out for the next six months.

Yarmolenko, 28, joined West Ham from Dortmund for a fee of £17.5million in the summer, but was injured during Saturday's Premier League defeat against Tottenham.

The Ukraine international had to be carried off on a stretcher after twisting awkwardly as he landed in the late stages of the first half, and underwent surgery on Monday morning.

The club's head of medical services, Richard Collinge, said: “Andriy’s operation went well and we will now work hard to support him throughout the rehabilitation process.

“His recovery will be planned very carefully and we have every confidence that he will return to full fitness within the scheduled timeframe.”

The expected six-month layoff means Yarmolenko is expected to miss the majority of the rest of the 2018-19 season, but could play a part in the Hammers' run-in around late April.
