Andriy Yarmolenko scouting report: West Ham Winger struggles but gets valuable minutes

0-15 minutes

Saw very little of the ball in the opening 15 minutes of the game as the Hammers played exclusively through Lanzini in the middle of the park. A couple of nice touches but nothing more than that for the Ukrainian.

15-30 minutes

Was on the periphery of things again as he didn't have a single chance to have a run at Jose Holebas and did more defending than going forward. To be fair, he held is own going back towards his own goal apart from once when he was roasted by Holebas.

30-45 minutes

Was a bit more involved but heavily frustrating at the same time. Had his share of defending to do but finally had chance to run at Holebas. Wasn't very effective though and will be aggrieved he couldn't get on the end of Anderson's header that hit the upright and turn home the rebound.

45-60 minutes

The midfielder was much more involved at the start of the second half as he put himself about a lot more. There was a lot ore zip and energy to Yarmolenko's play.

Had one decent chance on goal when he curled an effort on target but it was saved by Ben Foster.

Yarmolenko also utilised Ryan Fredericks a bit more at the right back pushed on. He was reluctant to do so in the first half as the Ukrainian is not necessarily known for his defensive prowess.

Yarmolenko was eventually substituted after 55 mnutes and replaced by Michail Antoni.

Overall

It was a tough afternoon for Yarmolenko but after 11 months out and only a handful of minutes in pre-season and a the start of the campaign, it was never going to be plain sailing.

There was one moment where he showed he hadn't lost much speed since his injury as he chased back Jose Holebas early in the second half but as an attacking weapon, Yarmolenko didn't have much luck.

He was well marshalled by Holebas who didn't give him much of a sniff. No matter how kuch the Ukrainian tried to cut sinside on his left foot, the Watford right back wasn't falling for it.
