Andriy Shevchenko looks set to face former boss Jose Mourinho in his first game as manager of a club.
The ex-Chelsea striker had joined Genoa on a deal until June 2024.
Shevchenko left his post in charge of the Ukrainian national team after a strong Euro 2020 campaign and is now expected to take the Stadio Luigi Ferraris hot seat.
The 45-year-old had been Ukraine boss since 2016, his only managerial job to date, following a foray into politics post-retirement.
Mourinho signed Shevchenko for Chelsea in 2006 after winning the Ballon d'Or two years prior and the pair should meet again on the touchline when Genoa welcome Roma after the international break.
The £30.8million fee was a record English transfer but his spell at Stamford Bridge is largely remembered for his struggles, scoring just nine goals in 48 appearances.
Now spending his time in the technical area rather than the penalty box, Shevchenko will take over Genoa after Davide Ballardini was sacked on Saturday, with the club one point above the relegation zone in Serie A
He will reportedly earn £1.7million per-season, having spent eight years of his playing career in Italy.
Ex- AC Milan assistant Mauro Tassotti is also set to reunite with Shevchenko as his number two.
Andrea Maldera, Raul Riancho and former Ukraine and Tottenham Hotspur striker Serhij Rebrov are also set to join the Red and Blues.
Genoa have been in the Italian top flight since 2007, although have flirted with relegation on multiple occasions, finishing 17th four times.
Owners 777 Partners are aiming to 'radically transform' the fortunes of the club and ex- Juventus manager boss Andrea Pirlo was linked with the vacant managerial position.
They will be hoping they can compound more misery on Mourinho and co on Sunday, November 21.
Roma sit fourth in the table but have won just once in their last six games in all competitions.
The Giallorossi's most recent shock result came when they drew 2-2 at home to Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League.
Post-match, Mourinho was furious with the officials, telling Sky Sport Italia : "I think the result is harsh on us.
