Andrey Arshavin describes what playing against Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic was like

Andrey Arshavin has named the hardest two opponents he most feared in his time in the Premier League.

The Arsenal star spent four years with the Gunners from 2009-2013 after moving from Zenit St Petersburg.

And he's revealed Manchester United duo Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were “bulls.”

“There were so many great players during my time. At Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

“But the toughest was the two defenders Rio Ferdinand and Vidic. When they played together they were like bulls. You could not go through” said Arshavin, speaking exclusively to 888sport.

Russian star Arshavin, 38, is now retired from the game and considering his next move.

But he looks back happily on his Arsenal days – even though he says Arsene Wenger was not the best manager he worked for.

“Big respect to Arsene Wenger. For me he was one of the best. But under the two Dutch guys Guus Hiddink and Dick Advocaat (both for Russia) I played my best performances so for me personally they were a little bit better.

“But of course I was lucky that I worked under Arsene.

“My only regret is that I didn’t win trophies with Arsenal.

"Especially that League Cup final against Birmingham who were relegated after. Even that final we lost.

“The problem was that every year we would lose players. First Samir Nasri, then Cesc, than Robin van Persie.

"If we could have kept that squad for two or three years it would have been different, I guess.”
