Andrew Whitworth played role in Bengals hiring Zac Taylor

Despite being a member of the Los Angeles Rams, Andrew Whitworth had something of a role in the Cincinnati Bengals hiring Zac Taylor.

A natural link between the two organizations, Whitworth offered his take on Taylor, according to Bengals.com:

“He’s been around things at a high level … He’s a sharp guy … He’s somebody the guys will respect. I think he understands this day and age the young players and how things are different.”

But it’s clear Whitworth’s comments about the Bengals also helped make Taylor’s decision easier.

“In my conversations with Whit, what was clear to me was his love for this organization, for this city, and how much he valued his time here and the appreciation he had for the Brown family,” Taylor said. “Those were the things made crystal clear to me. Just having those conversations let me know that this was a place for me.”

Whitworth, coming off a Super Bowl loss and considering retirement, left the Bengals due to contract negotiations in free agency. Even so, it’s clear he still sees the organization in a very positive light.

For the Bengals, it’s good to have veterans as important as Whitworth vouching for the organization publicly. That he strongly recommends Taylor is quite the bonus.
